002 Acts of Kindness
Characters: Darres & Anyone
Setting: Floor 3 (Library), 10 (Aquarium), 19 (Sec. Library)
Format: Either
Summary: Darres is going about some of his usual routines around the tower.
Warnings: None?
[Floor 3 (Library)]
[Darres was in here for the same reason he always came to this floor. The knight was in search for some decent, non-dark story books to read to Quark. The knight was even more protective of the child than he use to be. Having the kid die in his arms, anyone would become more caring of another. While death was not permanent here, it still pang him that he wasn't able to prevent it. The best he could do was try to keep the kid from slipping into the darkness that the tower taunted its residents with. This round, Darres was in search of particularly happy stories he could read to Quark. He could be found around the library collecting books.]
[Floor 10 (Aquarium)]
[The aquarium was more therapeutic for the knight than anything. He was continually rattled as his stay here grew longer. Back home he wasn't quite so useless as he was finding himself to be here. He wanted to save those who wanted it. Darres wants to help those who couldn't help themselves, but he was finding it to be rather difficult with how he was thwarted.
The knight was peacefully stationed in part of the aquarium where the fish roamed freely. Jumping from tank to tank and going about their business as if he wasn't here. There was a certain beauty to them that he found to be soothing. It was a nice break from the chaos that constantly plagued the tower. He himself was almost at peace?]
[Floor 19 (Second Library)]
[Darres decided it was time he really buckled down and hit the books to better his knowledge of things outside of his world. He wasn't sure how long he was going to be away from it, and as far as he was concerned, knowledge was a useful tool in various situations. The knight was diligently digging through the science portion of the library trying to better himself in the science field. From what he's gathered, the tower was full of this theme.]

Some people probably consider me their friend?
[He...just wasn't sure who considered him to be their friend.]
no subject
Ganta has that feeling, again. It actually... annoys him, a bit, this time.]
That's... kind of messed up. You don't consider them the same way? [Realizes how... horrible that sounds and takes it down, notch.]
Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. It's just... you never know when something could happen to take everyone away. And it doesn't matter if it happens once, it could always happen to your next set of friends. If you don't realize they're your friends... it really... messes you up.
So you should appreciate what you have, while you have it.
[He shifts uncomfortably.] I had to learn that the hard way... actually. Both times...
[He suddenly gives Darres a firm expression and decides that he's going to help this guy. There's only one way he can think to do it. This guy... just voluntarily helped him, after all.]
I can teach you how to have friends.
no subject
I don't talk to many people. [...] Or often.
[Just two that he could think of. So really. How could he have friends if he didn't talk to people?]
no subject
[Firm stare. This is just a taste of how stubborn Ganta is, unfortunately.]
You're already a nice person. That's the first step, right there. Being someone's friend isn't about words, anyway.
...Besides, words don't mean anything, on their own.
no subject
It's true that they don't. [A sigh.]
Being that you're still new here. Shouldn't you be more worried about settling?
no subject
Why the hell would I settle in a place like this? I plan on leaving, as soon as I figure out a way, so I'm not about to get all cozy!
[Relaxes a bit; he is obviously wound up with ease.]
If I don't find... some kind of distraction, I think I might go crazy, honestly.
[Puts a hand to his forehead.] If I sit still for too long, I won't be able to stop thinking about Shiro--... my friend--wondering if she's okay, or if she's hurt...
no subject
[While the confinement of their reality was no joke, it was bad to always think with the glass half empty. Of course Darres always had a way to maintain his harmonious like demeanor.]
Has she been in the tower previously? How long has she been missing?
no subject
She was just here... not too long ago. [How long has it been?] Honestly, all the days... have started to merge together. [He admitted this with a bit of embarrassment, actually.]
no subject
no subject
So he simply shakes his head, a tense look on his face.
He already knows how it looks.]
no subject
The knight will take his leave from this floor to check a different one.]
no subject
Hey, wait...
no subject
no subject
At least tell me what's going on!
[It doesn't take long at all to catch him. He tries one more time to get Darres to explain.]
Hey...
no subject
AND HERE!
They reached the graveyard, filled with marked graves.]
If Shiro isn't in this tower anymore, their name will be on a tombstone somewhere here.
no subject
Furrowing his brow, he looked up at Darres, before turning and hesitantly stepping further in. His eyes scanned each one he passed, swallowing hard every now and then. He saw many of the same name... but... so far, so good.]
Please don't be here...
[It came out in a whisper.]
no subject
no subject
I... don't see her name.
[He looks unsure, though. Is it too early to start celebrating? After all, she's still missing, as far as he knows.]
no subject
[That part was good news.]
no subject
I guess... that means I should start looking harder, then. In the tower I mean.
