002 Acts of Kindness
Characters: Darres & Anyone
Setting: Floor 3 (Library), 10 (Aquarium), 19 (Sec. Library)
Format: Either
Summary: Darres is going about some of his usual routines around the tower.
Warnings: None?
[Floor 3 (Library)]
[Darres was in here for the same reason he always came to this floor. The knight was in search for some decent, non-dark story books to read to Quark. The knight was even more protective of the child than he use to be. Having the kid die in his arms, anyone would become more caring of another. While death was not permanent here, it still pang him that he wasn't able to prevent it. The best he could do was try to keep the kid from slipping into the darkness that the tower taunted its residents with. This round, Darres was in search of particularly happy stories he could read to Quark. He could be found around the library collecting books.]
[Floor 10 (Aquarium)]
[The aquarium was more therapeutic for the knight than anything. He was continually rattled as his stay here grew longer. Back home he wasn't quite so useless as he was finding himself to be here. He wanted to save those who wanted it. Darres wants to help those who couldn't help themselves, but he was finding it to be rather difficult with how he was thwarted.
The knight was peacefully stationed in part of the aquarium where the fish roamed freely. Jumping from tank to tank and going about their business as if he wasn't here. There was a certain beauty to them that he found to be soothing. It was a nice break from the chaos that constantly plagued the tower. He himself was almost at peace?]
[Floor 19 (Second Library)]
[Darres decided it was time he really buckled down and hit the books to better his knowledge of things outside of his world. He wasn't sure how long he was going to be away from it, and as far as he was concerned, knowledge was a useful tool in various situations. The knight was diligently digging through the science portion of the library trying to better himself in the science field. From what he's gathered, the tower was full of this theme.]

She didn't want to do that but at that time she was still worried about people leaving, and abandoning her. She didn't like being alone and she couldn't bear being on her own. She struggled too much and if she lost Darres too, she'd be done. She'd stop caring, stop giving a fuck. Everything would have been numb. Instead, she pushed those feelings aside for the ime being and helping Darres gather books. ]

Are you sure you want to study here with me?
[It would be kind of boring.]
no subject
Yeah, it's fine Darres.
[ She smiled. She carried the stack of book over to him and plops right next to him. ]
no subject
If you're sure.
[His tone was dull. Darres' usual calm atmosphere became a little heavy as he opened one of the books he picked out.]

Floor 3
He won't post anything, in fact hardly ever does unless he's in a particularly tolerable mood. A lot of the drabble that other residents post up bores him almost to tears but the network is always worth a check in case.
At a noise behind him he sits forward and turns to look back over his shoulder at Darres picking a book up off a nearby shelf. He frowns momentarily but then it vanishes, though he doesn't take his eyes off the other man he recognizes him from that day up at his Dormitory. With Ishtar.]
no subject
The other didn't seem particularly sociable, and if anything Darres felt like he was imposing above all else. Unlike Ishtar, Darres didn't normally seek others or randomly engage with strangers he was not familiar with. He was far more introverted and reserved than his wife. He was only speaking now because this man seemed to be an acquaintance of Ishtar's.]
I'm not bothering you am I?
[His demeanor calm. Everything about him gave a placid vibe. It was easy to tell what kind of person he was.]
no subject
Hmph. Not at all. [He speaks over an armored shoulder.]
[Apparently satisfied, at least for the immediate moments that Darres is not a threat, Sephiroth turns more in the seat to look over the other man. Or rather what the other man is doing.]
Light reading?

Oh! ... Did that fish just jump from one aquarium to the next...?
The black-haired Deadman had let out a slightly surprised sound at that, considering it literally happened right in front of his face. Seriously, some water even splashed on his forehead.]
Wh-what the...?
no subject
Careful. Some of them are carnivorous. [Most sea life was, actually. But it wasn't often they decided to snack on humans. Still.]
no subject
Uh... right. [He was moving just a bit closer to the stranger, hands in pockets with a forced calm expression. Ganta removed a hand to scratch the back of his head.]
I'm Ganta, by the way.
[He watched the fish, quietly, after that. It was always nice to have a moment in a relatively calm setting.]

One of the books actually land Luke, however, nose-deep into it. So much so, that he was suddenly not paying any attention to where he was going.
Which was why he ran into the poor, unsuspecting individual.]
no subject
My apologies.
[Even if he wasn't at fault.]
no subject
Huh? I was the one that bumped into you, though...
Shouldn't I be the one apologizing?

no subject
However, he was caught off guard when she randomly began to reflect a rainbow theme. It was odd, yes, but that was it. The knight wanted to ask her, but instead he just remained where he was standing. Half watching the fish, and half observing her.]

But why would there be an entire world in a wardrobe? [He murmurs to himself, sounding frustrated.] Is it a really big wardrobe or just a really tiny world? And why did nobody notice it before?
[He wonders if the world smelled funny, like old fuzzies and dust and junk.]
no subject
[Ready and receptive to engage with Quark in a matter that wasn't sad or dejected. He wanted Quark to feel happier even in a place like this.]
no subject
This book sounds really illogical and I don't get it.
[He holds it up higher, so Darres can read it, too.]
It talks about magical creatures and stuff which I guess I can believe, since there are a bunch of people in the Tower that aren't human and who have powers...but I'm not sure that I can believe that a closet can act as a gateway to a completely different dimension.
[Quark blinks. Hey...maybe if he thought of it in terms of devices and portals, it could be sciencey. He pauses. Nah. It was still way too silly. No scientist worth their salt would hang up their coats in the same place that they had built something so important.]

He might have snuck in next to the knight, it wasn't like he was trying to be secretive. Henry was just naturally like that if he had nothing to say, but he does start humming to himself soon enough.]
no subject
The knight had no intention of interrupting the other who just walked in. He could also appreciate the tune of the humming.]
no subject
At least until one of the larger fish decides to jump between the walls of water, Henry nearly caught in the way.] Yowza! A little more warning next time!

Oh! I didn't realize there was anyone else here...
[She smiles a little.] I hope I'm not bothering you.
no subject
No, you're fine.
[He wasn't one for small talk though, or rather he just wasn't good at it.]
no subject
That's good. Most of the fish here are really nice, aren't they? And some of them don't look anything like the fish from my world.
[She giggles and reaches a hand up to pass it into the water, because she's pretty sure if one of the more violent fish swims up and tries to eat her she can pull it back in time.] Are any of these from your world?
