We're Gonna Party Rock Till The Day Comes Up!

Setting: Floor 38
Format: Whatever you feel comfortable with. Prose, action, it's all good.
Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

[ She kept hearing about this party over the network since she got here, so she couldn't help but be a little curious as she slid into the party. It wasn't like she was scared of being caught, but more interested in how the party was handled. She hadn't been to a decent party in a while, so she slipped in with jeans and a nice blouse on. She didn't have a dress, so there was no way she could find one right now.

She was starting to miss her old clothes, but she walked around the back of the room, looking around curiously. ]

[Elian really didn't want to be at a party, but he didn't want to be alone either. With so many people here, it was better to at least go with it than fight it. Logically, there is safety in numbers. Psychologically, he's insecure.

He wandered around to find a place where he could remain out of the way yet close enough to people to where he could at least feel like he was still a part of the social order in some way. His small teal eyes looked around for anything familiar.

Eventually, he pulls himself away from the crowd and moved toward the back rooms. It was here that he spots Ishtar.]

You didn't feel all that comfortable either?

[ Ishtar wanted some leisure away from all the excitement that had been going around for the past week since she had been here. What better medicine than to have some fun right?

Ishtar turned to hear the familiar voice from eating some small things near the food table. ]

Oh....Hey Elian!

[ After she forced herself to eat some weird thing called 'oatmeal,' she was able to digest normal food. Hei wasn't kidding when he said that her body would reject everything except that said food. She had to test it out of curiosity, but we'll leave that for another story. She waved at him. ]

Well, I mean I don't know anyone here, yet. There's so many people here compared to the place I came from, and they all look intimidating. Plus, I didn't even get to bring a dress with me, so what's the point?

[ She shrugged. ]

What about you kiddo?

[Elian let out a soft chuckle at the thought of being the least intimidating person around. Luckily, he couldn't get mad enough to use his power to cause harm. He was taught better than that and it's a good thing too.

He slowly made his way toward Ishtar and picked up a meat skewer. Of course, he took a small bite to test it and since eating the bland oatmeal, it didn't seem all that bad.]

It's best not to underestimate anyone. Most of the intimidating ones often are then least powerful despite the way they look. I wouldn't worry about the dress. Most likely it could be destroyed at a later time.

[His baggy HOLY uniform was the most formal apparel he had.]

[ Ishtar thought, he was a cute kid, despite being like a super human computer, he was pleasant to talk with. Ishtar smiled. He reminded her how much she had grown up in the past years, because back then, she was hardly a year older than him, and now she was 18-years-old and going 19 soon. She didn't underestimate him, because she knew better, but he had yet to do anything to make her distrust him. ]

Yeah, I know that.

[ She smiled. ]

I've been aware of that for the longest time, though unless they proved to be dangerous, I'll think otherwise for the time being.

[ She chuckled. ]

I guess you have a point there, huh?

[ They can stand out together! ]

[Elian moves toward Ishtar's side. He lowers his chin and closes his eyes. It's almost like he's committing something to memory or he's "feeling" his way around.

His hands lift up over his head. His eyes are still closed and his chin lifts. His hands are now completely visible from under the stiff material. Light scars along his wrists and forearm are scattered in places along the length.]

The stars. They seem so close you could almost touch them.

[The shimmering nimbus engulfs his body briefly and stops the moment he lets out a gasp and immediately drops his hands.]

I'm sorry.

[He looks away shyly as if in embarrassment.]

[ Ishtar looked over at Elian, wondering what the boy was doing, closing his eyes and looking down. Then, he looked up. The girl looked a little confused for a moment, until she saw the small scars on his wrists and forearm. It seemed that the younger boy had gone through a lot of things at home. She couldn't help but feel worried for the boy. ]

Yeah, right?

[ She replied with a small gentle smile. She watched as he was entranced by the scenery, before becoming slightly embarrassed. She just chuckled. ]

You don't have to apologize to me.

[ There's a pause. She wondered how deep those scars were? Maybe, she could fix them for him...even though she wasn't sure how her healing would do much on already closed wounds. ]

Do they hurt, your scars?

[He gripped the material of his cuffs protectively with a glance over his shoulder. Once his mind returned from the latent memories from others in his home world, he released the cuffs and slowly shook his head.]

No. They are a result from multiple tests and experiments.

[His eyes glanced down to his covered wrists once again and slowly he raised the sleeve to reveal them further.]

They don't matter now. Heated probes, electrodes and capsicum were used to induce an emotional response. All they did was cause pain. Perhaps they succeeded if I react this way.

[ Ishtar gave him a worried expression. ]

...You've been through experiments and tests, at this age?

[ She was already disapproving of the people who did this to him. ]

That- that's terrible. Why would someone do something to a young boy... like that?

[ Though, deep down, she already knew the answer to that. She knew people had their reasons and humans weren't the best people on the face of the earth, but still.

Ishtar unconsciously touched his wrists, and grasping them gently in her hands. ]

....I'm sorry that you had to go through this kind of suffering. I didn't know.

[The touch made his back rigid. He wasn't used to physical contact unless it was to read bio-signatures. He shrugged and looked off to the side with his eyes.]

It's been like this for as long as I can remember. I was created for their purpose of research. The Commander saw to my release when he bartered for his own freedom from that place.

[His voice became soft.]

No one knew. I am alive because he kept me a secret. When he created HOLY, I became the primary system through the use of my power. I am not ashamed of who I am.

[ She didn't let go yet, knowing she should have, since they were strangers, but she couldn't help it. He reminded her of a couple of her good friends, and she couldn't bring herself to let go of his small hands. ]

...You..were created?

[ Ishtar nodded her head again, understanding what he was saying. ] I'm glad that he took you with him.

Ah, I don't know what any of that is, but it sounds complicated and difficult. [ There's a small smile from her. ] I'm glad that you aren't ashamed of yourself. You're a really strong person, for enduring so much.

[He nodded his head then looked up at Ishtar.]

Yes. The scientists hoped to isolate the gene that created the powers that the Commander had. I am his son despite not being brought into existence by normal, biological means.

[It was good that she wasn't trying to smother him or pity him. He would feel even more odd if that were the case. Ishtar is getting him to talk, and that's a good thing.]

My powers are a combination of his and those artificially engineered by The Facility scientists. I hope the day never comes that I have to use it to its fullest extent.

[ He expression remained unchanging as he he spoke again. ]

I see so they did it via artificial means.

[ She replied, knowing those terms from Facility. She learned quite a lot of things during her stay in that place. Ishtar thought it would be insulting to him if she did those things right now. He didn't appear like a weak child, and he had a strong will. It was only natural that he got complimented for them. Ishtar wasn't even that strong when she was his age. ]

Are your powers really dangerous to people?

Affirmative.

[The question made his eyes widen in a brief flash. He used it one other time and knocked everyone unconscious from the psychic push. His gaze softened with a nod.]

They can be if I lose my focus.

[His hands turned upward and clasped hers.]

There would be less of a chance for me to have a normal life if I didn't accept this.

You don't have to sound so formal, Elian.

[ She mused with a small smile. Ishtar looked concerned than surprised at his reaction. ]

I see, but if it does, it's not really your fault. You probably have a hard time controlling it right?

[ She tightened her grip on his small hands. ]

I know what you mean. We can make the best of it here, so you will have fun too and enjoy it more.

[She was right and he knew it. Deep down, he knew all along that he could loosen his barriers just a little bit. Still, he blinked in a wide-eyed response.]

But I...

[He relaxed and nodded his head with a small, visible smile. A first for him since his father's death.]

Yes. Make the most of it...that's okay.

[ Ishtar released his hands and patted him on the shoulders firmly. ]

It's fine, don't worry about it. I'm not going to shun or anything just cuz you're a little different.

[ She replied as she watched him relaxed a little. She was also content to see him smile as well. ]

Yep, do what you can to make yourself happy, and ask for help when you need it.

[He looked at his hands for a moment and then back up at Ishtar with a child-like expression of wonder.]

Happy?

[Was he ever happy? He couldn't recall a happy moment in his life other than false memories that Unkei placed on him with his Mad Sprict power which made him nothing more than fake.

He blinks is eyes for a moment in thought.]

What makes you happy?

[ Ishtar thought that was kind of cute, coming from a boy his age. She nodded her head. ]

Yes, happy. Have you ever felt happy before?

[ She mused tilting her head a little. Ishtar waited for him to speak as she lets go of his shoudlers. ]

What makes me happy? [ She paused. ] That's easy. When I see people happy, I fell happy, or when I am with my friends and family, and we're having fun, I'm happy. You can feel happy from a lot of things Elian.

I see.

[It takes him a long pause to think about what makes him happy. His stoic expression breaks into a small smile. The arcade. He liked the arcade. It wasn't just because he was good at games, it was because he was around people his own age and he was allowed to be himself for just a few moments even if it was in competition.

Those moments were very rare because of the demands places on him on such a constant basis with gathering information and relaying information to the field operatives. The DARS (Directed Assault Reconnaissance Squad) units often demanded his attention and placed an even greater demand on his power to control them.

Having fun was a treat to him when he could get it. It was almost like a drug.]

I like the arcade.

Yeah, it's pretty simple and silly, isn't it?

[ She replied smiling at him. Ishtar waited for him to reply again, patient as she was with most people. She wanted him to tell her something genuine, something that came from his heart. She hoped he at least had some happiness in his life.

Well then, Ishtar will try to make him have as much fun as possible, when things got better. ]
