We're Gonna Party Rock Till The Day Comes Up!

Setting: Floor 38
Format: Whatever you feel comfortable with. Prose, action, it's all good.
Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

Dave does that thing where he looks anywhere but at her. Preferably the ground and at their feet. Oh, those are lovely shoes you have on. Oh man, this floor is so interesting, you don't even know.

"When we die on our quest beds, we get reborn." Which is to say, Dave had technically died once already, excluding all his apparent time fuck ups. But that didn't need to be said. He rather not imply that he graciously accepted the off chance that he was gonna stay dead. Nope. Although it seems like he's purposely not talking about the how he died part in the first place. Maybe because he doesn't know she wanted him to elaborate on or more likely because he's pretending he doesn't know.

Too bad for him, then, that she's still looking at him. (She'd probably look the other way if she were him, it's true, but right now she's a little too busy watching his expression. Pardon her staring.)

Her frown deepens slightly. "You mean... back in your world?" It seems a reasonable assumption, considering the way the Tower works and the face that she's never heard of any such thing happening in it.

It just makes him uncomfortable. He shifts from foot to foot awkwardly.

"Yeah. Back where I was. It was one of the gimmicks we had going on when we started playing our session." And boy was that session a trainwreck in general.

Whoops. Once she realizes that, she at least tries not to stare so blatantly, but she's still definitely watching him most of time, especially when there's speaking going on.

"...." There's sort of big difference between the ways such a thing could be construed, and she intends to find out which is actually the case. "Was it an accident?" 'Or did you do it on purpose?'

This entire thing got kind of awkward. Mostly, this is really the first time he's talked about it since it happened.

There was a long pause as Dave considered the question. And really. There's no way he could play this off without being honest. He would have to think of an alternative as to how it could be an accident, and he's pretty sure he wouldn't think of a convincing story that she would believe. "No."

She's not aware of that - though she'd likely be concerned for him if he'd gone this long without even talking to his friends about it.

The girl doesn't quite startle at the answer - somehow she isn't as surprised as she could be, but it's clear that wasn't the response she was hoping for. Better that he tell her the truth, at least. She's too good at catching dishonesty in certain things. She seems to not-quite-deflate, her hands sliding down slightly before she realizes where they are and removes them. "... Why?"

It wasn't really a topic worth bringing up. And the only person he feel like it's worth talking too isn't here to talk too.

He shoves his hands back in his pockets, still getting a good eyeful of the floor. "Because there was something I had to do and I wasn't going to let someone do it by themselves." Even if it didn't need them both, he wasn't letting Rose do that by herself.

Something she'd understand better than she'd like to, most probably.

"...." She's quiet a moment. As reasons go, there are definitely worse ones. "... So it had to be done." And maybe if she'd lived differently, that concept wouldn't be so painfully easy for her to understand. He's not the only one who's had to do awful things, though honestly? She'd rather do that than what she actually did, if only because it would mean less pain for OTHER people. "... I think I understand." Still looks pretty grim, though. "I'm sorry."

"Well." He trails off for a moment. He considers whether to divulge this certain piece of information. It isn't like he ever talked about it. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. He's more worried how she might react, but she seems to remain calm for the most part. "It's fine. I mean. I didn't think I was going to come out of it. That was pretty surprising." To him, it was a suicide mission and that was that. There was nothing after. That was the end all, but it ended up being the opposite.

Her eyes widen, then relax again, her expression darkening. It looks like there's a lot that she could say and a lot she isn't saying when she eyes him like that. Something's on her mind, but saying 'sorry' again doesn't seem like enough, and the rest, well-- maybe that'd be better left unsaid.

"Then... I'm glad that you survived." Pause. Er, "-- I mean... made it back."

He missed that darkening of her expression. He hasn't really made eye contact with her yet. He's trying to think about how to switch this topic without being too obvious.

"Yeah..." There's a short pause. "Sorry, I think I did the opposite of trying to make this a good time. This is basically the opposite of a good time. This is mostly just a shitty story time about something that didn't need to come up."

Might want to work on the 'not obvious' part, because that was pretty much an F. Her frown deepens slightly, but-- she can understand, all too well, the desire to keep certain things to oneself. There's the quietest of not-quite-sighs, then,

"You don't have anything to apologize for." Here, have what she hopes is an encouraging smile, even if it IS kind of small. "I didn't exactly help."

At least he gets an A for trying, right? He still looks a bit sheepish though.

"I wasn't really asking for help. I mean, I guess it helped. I haven't talked about it before." Dave kind of just shrugged. It wasn't that big of a deal, right? "We were supposed not keep talking about shitty things though. Party and all. I guess we both kind of suck at it."

And a 'you tried' star. A golden one, and everything.

"... Then... I'm glad that I could listen." She offers a small though entirely sincere - and, she hopes, encouraging - smile, followed by, "But you're right. We could both use some practice, I think."

Ahhh snap. Best sticker ever. Gonna put it in his sticker book and everything.

"Alright. Taking the gloves off. Gonna not talk about shit hitting the fan the rest of the night. We can only go up. Soaring. Flying." Insert more High School Musical here or something.

"Right. We can do this, can't we?" -- Well, she assumed he was being silly in even saying it, but, "You can even do the flying part." There, see? A joke. ... Sort of. It's still true, but it was... humorously intended. Or something.

"Of course. We're two pretty smart teenagers. I think we can figure this out." He chuckles lightly. "Only if you liked the flying part. I guess I should have asked first the first time. My bad. Didn't make sure you were afraid of heights or not or something." Because they were floating a total few inches or maybe foot off the ground.

She nods in return, smiling, then laughing at that second part, just a little. "Don't worry, I didn't mind. It was-- cool." That's what you're supposed to say, right-- "I mean-- I was very startled, but... I had fun." It's not like it was that high anyway. "I wouldn't mind doing it again. -- Not that you have to take me with you, or anything...!" She was talking about HIM being able to do that, after all. If he wants to ditch her to do the flying thing that's okay too--

Oh. She thought it was cool. That's cool. "So, if you don't mind. We can do it again. I'm cool with giving free rides." Dave wraps his arms around her waist carefully. "It's more fun when people do shit together anyways, right?"

Oh no. He thinks he's just starting to realize that she's fucking cute. Abort. Abort. You can't do this Dave. "So if you're cool with it, staying grounded was definitely yesterday anyways."

The girl blinks, only the slightest bit startled. Even if she should have expected that, there's still a part of her that tenses despite itself. Her smile returns quickly, and she nods. "Right. That's what friends are for." Even if that last part sounds faintly awkward, as if she's not quite comfortable saying it. (Is she really allowed to have friends--) That done, she just as carefully wraps her arms around his shoulders. Can't have any falling down ~~any stairs~~ now can they? All the same, she at least offers a, "Like this?" for confirmation.

The smile with just a hint of shyness to it may not be helping. "I'm-- cool with it." Pause. GIVE HER A SECOND SHE'S TRYING TO WORK OUT A JOKE-- "Who needs gravity anyway?"

Oh man, he thinks them being friends is the greatest thing. It will be until he figures out he's hardcore crushing on her. "Yeah. Friends are the shit." They slowly start levitating above the ground, their feet no longer touching the ground. "Yeah."

Oh no. Why is she kind of really adorable? "It might make things a little more interesting, but I think I'd get sick of it after awhile." Plus, it would screw up the fact he relays more on speed, and zero gravity would make that difficult.

And she will remains totally oblivious to that particular bit of it. She's smiling quite happily now, though, eyes trailing down toward the floor as their feet leave it. This is so strange, but... in a good way. There's a funny feeling in her stomach, and before she knows it she's giggling, though only briefly, and her eyes move back up toward him. "Mm. They mean so much. I'm... glad that we all have the opportunity to make friends here. That's one thing I--" ... Oh. Oh, no, one second, barrel rolling out of the way of an awkward topic. "... really appreciate about this place."

Takes one to know one-- "Hee, probably. It might make things more difficult, like-- drawing, or trying to eat breakfast." Stuff floating in your face, getting all up in your grill all the time, orange juice in your eyes-- "It might be funny at first, though." She's kind of amused just thinking about it.

"I guess that's true. There's a crapton of people here." Although Dave wasn't the most social kid on the block. If anything, he's done more avoiding than socializing at times, but everyone has their periods of times where they just don't really want to be social.

"Seeing the monsters float around might be funny too. Not so scary now, bitches." Although, he still rather not get near them if he doesn't have too. Unneeded strifing in a place like this.

"It's amazing, really. I've never been around so many people before." Especially not ones she could freely speak with. "I mean-- there are worlds out there with this many people and more, I'm sure, and I've been places where there were a lot of people like this, I just... never met very many of them. It was sort of strange when I first got here. There were so many new faces, more than I'd ever seen at once before, and I could talk to anyone I wanted to."

-- Heh. "I suppose that would be funny, yes. They probably wouldn't like it very much." But she's no sadist and actually not much for revenge, so it's not as big a plus as it might otherwise be. "They'd look so silly...!" The contemplation of that particular fact is especially amusing.

There's a lot of people here, but he came from the city, so it was still less than what he had grown up with. He wonders where she must have lived that this place had a higher population than what she was used too. "Could you not talk to people before?" He's curious. Maybe she just had a specific agenda and no time to deter from it.

"I think we can still agree that no gravity would be a terrible idea though."
