We're Gonna Party Rock Till The Day Comes Up!

Setting: Floor 38
Format: Whatever you feel comfortable with. Prose, action, it's all good.
Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

He'd think right, in that. Today is a good day, at least for her.

Her smile slowly widens as he goes on and on. He definitely seems to have amused her, if nothing else. "I'm sure they'll be lovely." There's a very brief giggle, and then, head tilting, she regards him silently but happily for a moment. Apparently, the decision she's come to is, "You are a very silly person, Dave." And it seems that that's quite all right with her.

Dave kind of just incessantly rants a lot, so she might have to get used to it.

He huffs a bit, acting like he's offended, but it's also obvious he isn't upset by the smile that's threatening to break his mock upset expression. "I'm only the most serious person. Serious Strider. We're only the most serious of business. Silly is for Egberts and Harleys because they need to counterbalance how serious I am." He's not sure where he was going with this.

Too late, already used to it. (She is talented at getting used to other people's mannerisms.)

His act fails to convince her, possibly because she doesn't miss even a fraction of that not-quite-smile. It helps that when she looks at someone, she looks at them. Her own smile is not at all hidden, so her own, "Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I must have mistaken you for some other Dave Strider." is not even slightly convincing.

Easier for her to deal with him.

He huffs a little and rolls his eyes (except he has shades on), before finally smiling a little. "I'm the only Dave Strider here. If there was a previous Dave acting silly, than he was obviously a fake trying to be me. They wish they were me, but they aren't."

Easier for her to deal with a lot of things; she's got plenty of practice.

Her smile widens slightly, although that last part seems to cause her some distraction. The girl pauses, looking thoughtful. "So, then... is there not another Dave? An orange one, with wings?" Because the thing is, she met Davesprite a long, long time ago - she's not seen him for some time, and she can only assume that he's gone from the Tower at this point, but he told her of other Daves way back then. -- Whoops, is that not something the others know about? "Or-- does he not have the same last name?"

Fuck. Fuck, he's forgotten about Davesprite. Not because Davesprite was forgettable, but because he hasn't seen the other since arriving here. It was easy to forget people when you aren't around them anymore. "Davesprite used to be here? No, he has the same last name. He's me. Was me. He isn't me, but we were the same person once. It's kind of complicated."

Of course Davesprite was here before. He was here before too.

"Oh. I thought it was something like that...!" Sobered now, she hesitates, then attempts to offer a smile. "Yes, he was, but it was a long, long time ago. I met him briefly, and he told me about the other Daves - about you, I suppose." There's a short silence, during which she considers apologizing for broaching the subject, but for now, instead there is a, "... That's okay. I... know what it's like, for things to be complicated."

That done, at last, "... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-- say something wrong."

He wonders how long she's been here now, but he doesn't really want to know either. That didn't seem like something you should just bring up so casually. "Yeah. Most of them eventually become me." But they don't always. Like Davesprite and whatever Daves that usually died. "You didn't say anything wrong. I guess I just forgot." It's not the first thing he's forgotten that was generally important. He can honestly say he's forgotten that he can time travel on many occasions.

Now that's an interesting concept. She's very curious as to how that works, but-- well, she's not about to ask. It seems a dangerous can of worms to open, considering her own experience situations involving such concepts. She presses her lips together just to make sure she won't say something silly, though that last part makes her frown slightly. "Oh." Forgotten, then. She knows a thing or two about what that's like. (Perhaps it's for the best that Davesprite isn't here? If there's any hope that his situation might be better than the one in the Tower, anyway, which isn't something she's willing to bet on. "I suppose... some things are easy to forget." Maybe that's one of those things, for him? She can't claim to know the reality of the situation. She needs a second to think of the phrase, but, "Out of sight, out of mind... right?" It's true of memories and she knows it, but that doesn't mean she's happy to think it.

He's not usually too cagey about talking about how timelines work, since it was mostly technical to him. It's when he has to emotionally invest himself in it that he starts getting fairly cagey about it. "I guess that's one way to look at it. I kind of forget things easily when I don't have to think about it. There's a number of occasions that I forget I can time travel."

He forgets about it a lot while in Animus. It wasn't generally a safe power to use here.

"Mm. Most people do." But what's decidedly more concerning about that statement is the last part. Her interest is obvious. "Time travel?" So that's a Thing, too, then? It's a concept with which she is vaguely familiar, but also one that's slightly unsettling, mostly because, as with many things, were it to fall into the wrong hands, well....

"Oh. I guess that's not something everyone is used too. I didn't think it was a thing until I had them. I was in charge of Time for my session. That's also a ridiculously complicated story that I'm the worst to explain. I didn't really witness everything completely linear." Which leads to a bit of a jumbled mess at times. "I just made sure that the main timeline never became a doomed one. It's not something I risk here since it affects a lot more people and they aren't exactly safe."

It's a lot to follow, especially when she's not familiar with the context of so much of that, but she manages to keep up about as well as can be expected of anyone. "That does sound complicated." She doesn't seem terribly perplexed, though, just thoughtful. Those thoughts seem to add up to something - but she doesn't say, 'Was that your mountain?' anywhere but in her expression, and there only subtly. Instead, "... And a lot of work. It's-- good of you to look after things like that."

"Maybe someone else can give a better explanation." Probably not. He doesn't think most are willing to talk about it. Maybe Aradia, but he wouldn't know since he only had spoken to her briefly while she was here in Animus for a short while. "It's not like anyone else could have done it." They had didn't aspects and he just had to roll with what he had.

"I... think I get the idea." Very loosely, but she'll definitely keep that in mind for future investigation. At the second part, she stills suddenly, as if thinking of something, though she shakes her head not long after that to clear it. "Well-- sometimes you just... have to do what you have to do, I suppose."

"Yeah. It's cool. Everyone had shit to do and I had my own thing to do. It worked out. I think." He, unfortunately, doesn't actually know. The last thing he remembers is the suicide mission with Rose, which wasn't exactly the best place to leave off.

The girl raises an eyebrow at that last part. Strange, how much in common those statements have with what she could say about her own place in her worlds and the story that consumed her life. "... You think?" It's not pushy or sarcastic, just a legitimate question and one she'd not blame him for choosing not to answer.

"I don't really know what happened after. Before I could figure anything out, I woke up here." He leaves out the part about how he was sure he was gonna die and he kind of did. He just didn't expect to come back. But you know. That's how suicide missions work.

And if she knew about that part? This would be even more unsettling for her than it already is. "... Oh." Her eyes lower, expression visibly thoughtful. "... I'm sorry. I... know what that's like." Even more so than she realizes, perhaps. "That's how it was for me, too."

Dave doesn't really talk about it. It's nice knowing he survived it somehow, but he still vividly remembers everything in that moment. The fear and the acceptance that they were going to die. The explosion. He's better just tucking it away. "I guess this place kind of grabs us from the most inconvenient moments. Although I'm still trying to figure out how they think they can say they saved me when I was floating in the middle of fucking nowhere already."

Her nod is slow and thoughtful. In her own way, she'd been about to die, too - or at least, cease being a seperate being. If everything had gone as planned, it would have been the death of what she was then. (For the best, of course, for the best - as she always had to tell herself.) That last comment makes her raise her eyes to regard him curiously; it's obvious she's wondering what that was all about, but she refrains from vocalizing any related questions. Instead, "... They do seem to say a lot of things they probably shouldn't."

She probably wouldn't be too excited about the whole Doomed timeline deal that Dave has to deal with. Hopefully, she won't ever see a random dead Dave somewhere in the Tower, that he's prone to doing when the Tower decides for shit to hit the fan.

"They're either really cagey about what they tell us, or they tell us things that are just plain, fucking unsettling. But it usually doesn't help still."

Not excited at all, no. She harbors that hope, herself, not because she knows about timeline shenanigans and the related risks, but rather the normal reasons one wouldn't want to find a dead person they knew.

"Mm. And who's to say they're telling the truth? About much of anything."

Dave isn't too excited to finding them himself, so no worries there.

"That's true. But it's like common knowledge that they're all a load of shit. I don't think I still really get why they pull the stunts they do or their reasoning behind it." He does air quotes though. Any reasoning would probably be just as dumb.

The nod that she replies with is not a particularly pleased one. "It is pretty hard to believe them." Though she still looks thoughtful. "Although... this does seem like a lot of trouble to go through. It would make sense if they had some kind of reason...." By which she really means 'most likely nefarious plot'.
