We're Gonna Party Rock Till The Day Comes Up!

Setting: Floor 38
Format: Whatever you feel comfortable with. Prose, action, it's all good.
Summary: The giant party is finally here! Mingle, Blind date and strange things ahoy!
Warnings: WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

Floor Thirty-Eight. Normally just a simple lounge, it was now Party Central.

It was clear Eikichi had put all of his heart into it. Say what you wanted about him, but he was a good manager and organizer. The place didn't look the same, with the flower bouquets strewing in odd corners, the bright pieces of tissues hung around like garlands. They had no balloons so they made with. A few banners hung into the air, the words crudely painted with Maya's name and wishing her a happy birthday. There was also a few others with the names of the birthdays Eikichi had managed to get.

At the entrance, there was a a few large baskets filled with corsages that Jun had prepared - acacias white (friendship and chaste love), yellow (secret love) and pink (friendship), white violets (Purity; Candor; Modesty; Innocence; Let's take a chance on happiness) and pink roses (Perfect happiness, please believe me; Friendship) expertly woven pieces of stems and grass meant it required no other materials than the flower themselves.

Of course, the meanings were not written. You just had a few to chose from. Then you could offer one to your date to wear on their hand...if you wished.

As Eikichi had said, no pressure.

...Except for coming, of course.

Those that were part of the blind dates had each been given a small piece of paper with a symbol.As they entered they could see a small sign instructing to try and find the other person with the same symbol. This would be their 'date' of the night.

On the farthest left to the entrance, they had dragged in a gigantic music system, with an area for a DJ to run (Tatsuya had helped with the wiring). Some large pieces of metals had been lined up to cover the floor, making a fake stage and on top of that, he had placed various instruments - along with those of his band, of course. The stage would be open for them to play later, regardless.

The main area reserved for food was a few tables that had been dragged in here, covered with whatever tissues they had found and filled with all the food they could take - some of it was typical stuff found in the cafeteria this week (but no gross stuff - Eikichi didn't want living maggots in his cheese today), the rest had been made by those nice enough to help with the cooking. There wasn't that much typical 'party food' as creating your own sweets and chips does take a while, but the jerky meats, the hot soups and the vegetables more than made up for it. The drinks were placed right besides it and who knew how many trips they had needed to set it all up.

There were also cakes on the next table, enough to feed at least everyone in the part a generous slice. Considering the ingredients and the people involved they ranged from the very simple to baked pies using the available fruits, and a single cake which appeared to have more work than the others. They did with what they had, and it was fantastic they had so much at all.

All the chairs and bags found in that room normally were tossed in a corner facing the central area so that people could sit down if they felt like it, but the central area was reserved to talk, mingle and dance once everything REALLY got underway.

It would soon too, once the crowds started to get bigger and bigger.

"Well, the point of this is for you. It would be pretty much a douche move if you got stuck in the back. Everyone else probably has seen all the movies the Tower has to offer, anyways," Dave said with a shrug.

He sticks his tongue out because that is obviously mature. "Damn right you better accept them. I will force my appreciation onto you until you accept them."

"Hee...! I... suppose that would kind of defeat the purpose." Though she says it sheepishly, embarrassed in a pleased kind of way. Goodness, she doesn't even know what to do with herself. Can't hold all this niceness.

"--!" So silly...! She tries to respond, but she's too busy trying to hold in laughter and then failing. Once she's recovered enough, "I-- hee-- I guess I don't have any choice, then...! Oh, no. It's-- such a burden!" Except for the part where she is blatantly and obviously joking.

Dave has this rather backhanded niceness where he pretends he isn't being nice, except he kind of sucks at masking it. "It would be pretty stupid."

Oh. She's laughing. That's good right? Okay, maybe he's a little embarrassed. "I think you can handle it. You seem like a tough burden handling type of gal. Just got to roll with the punches."

Fortunately for both of them, she's not bad at adjusting for people's idiosycrancies ~~and tsunning~~. "Mm. So I guess that's out of the question."

Very good, all things considered! Although at that last part, she sobers subtly, just enough to barely be noticable. "Well-- everyone has their burdens, I suppose." Sidestepping the compliment? You bet. "You can't let them break you, whether they're big or small."

"Well yeah. But some are bigger than others. But this isn't a dick sizing contest." He is on to your sidestepping ways. "And sometimes the bigger ones deserve a pat on the back. It kind of sucks to climb a mountain and not at least be told a good job well done."

Story of his life.

Caught. She blinks up at him through that, regarding him thoughtfully. After a moment, she smiles, and it is a small and slightly uncertain thing, but it's there. "... I suppose so." Except turnaround is imminent in 3... 2... "Are you speaking from experience?"

Because clearly that should apply to him rather than to her.

"No." He may have answered that a little too quickly. It was just a kneejerk reaction. It's not like he's expecting to be thanks while playing some stupid world ending game. They were all busy. "Why do you ask?"

Judging by that head tilt? She didn't miss how hasty that was. Her expression sobers slightly, but at that question, she straightens again, encouraging her smile back into place. It is almost apologetic upon its return. Her shoulders move in something like a shrug. "It just... seemed like it, I suppose."

Well, he was applying it to you, except you were apparently applying it to him. So now this is just kind of silly.

"I was referring to you." He looks a bit sheepish. "There wasn't really time to go thanking each other." And he was pretty sure that no one was keeping up with his shenanigans when they all had work to do.

"Oh. Okay." She doesn't seem as bothered as she could be. Silly or not, no harm done. At that second part, though, she looks thoughtful. "... Then, thank you. For that, and whatever it was you did before." She smiles a little wider. It may not mean much coming from her, but, "Good job climbing that mountain. Just in case." Whatever said 'mountain' might be and whenever such a thing might occur, past or future.

He's pretty sure the tips of his ears are turning red. He huffs a bit. "Well, I wanted to thank you too. Because I bet you've also done a lot, even if you deny it." He doesn't know what that is, but still.

"And I better be getting a postcard from whatever mountain you conquer. I need shit to put on my walls."

If she notices, she makes no comment. She's a little distracted with that first part; by the look on her face, it's pretty obvious she was neither expecting thanks nor is she someone who is used to receiving it. She laughs very quietly and briefly behind her hand, and does not address or protest what she might have done to earn that, instead opting to smile and day, "Then, thank you for that, too."

That part gets a stronger laugh and an, "Of course! I'll do my best. But that means you have to send me one, too, okay?" If he goes climbing any/ more, that is.

He did good, right? She laughed and she seems happy? Job well done, he thinks. At least someone seems cheered up. Or so he thinks.

"I'll send only the best postcards I can find. They will be the highest quality of postcards and everyone else who gets you postcards will never be able to amount to what quality postcards I can get. Their postcards are just mediocre postcards." He's totally just ranting.

He'd think right, in that. Today is a good day, at least for her.

Her smile slowly widens as he goes on and on. He definitely seems to have amused her, if nothing else. "I'm sure they'll be lovely." There's a very brief giggle, and then, head tilting, she regards him silently but happily for a moment. Apparently, the decision she's come to is, "You are a very silly person, Dave." And it seems that that's quite all right with her.

Dave kind of just incessantly rants a lot, so she might have to get used to it.

He huffs a bit, acting like he's offended, but it's also obvious he isn't upset by the smile that's threatening to break his mock upset expression. "I'm only the most serious person. Serious Strider. We're only the most serious of business. Silly is for Egberts and Harleys because they need to counterbalance how serious I am." He's not sure where he was going with this.

Too late, already used to it. (She is talented at getting used to other people's mannerisms.)

His act fails to convince her, possibly because she doesn't miss even a fraction of that not-quite-smile. It helps that when she looks at someone, she looks at them. Her own smile is not at all hidden, so her own, "Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I must have mistaken you for some other Dave Strider." is not even slightly convincing.

Easier for her to deal with him.

He huffs a little and rolls his eyes (except he has shades on), before finally smiling a little. "I'm the only Dave Strider here. If there was a previous Dave acting silly, than he was obviously a fake trying to be me. They wish they were me, but they aren't."

Easier for her to deal with a lot of things; she's got plenty of practice.

Her smile widens slightly, although that last part seems to cause her some distraction. The girl pauses, looking thoughtful. "So, then... is there not another Dave? An orange one, with wings?" Because the thing is, she met Davesprite a long, long time ago - she's not seen him for some time, and she can only assume that he's gone from the Tower at this point, but he told her of other Daves way back then. -- Whoops, is that not something the others know about? "Or-- does he not have the same last name?"

Fuck. Fuck, he's forgotten about Davesprite. Not because Davesprite was forgettable, but because he hasn't seen the other since arriving here. It was easy to forget people when you aren't around them anymore. "Davesprite used to be here? No, he has the same last name. He's me. Was me. He isn't me, but we were the same person once. It's kind of complicated."

Of course Davesprite was here before. He was here before too.

"Oh. I thought it was something like that...!" Sobered now, she hesitates, then attempts to offer a smile. "Yes, he was, but it was a long, long time ago. I met him briefly, and he told me about the other Daves - about you, I suppose." There's a short silence, during which she considers apologizing for broaching the subject, but for now, instead there is a, "... That's okay. I... know what it's like, for things to be complicated."

That done, at last, "... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-- say something wrong."

He wonders how long she's been here now, but he doesn't really want to know either. That didn't seem like something you should just bring up so casually. "Yeah. Most of them eventually become me." But they don't always. Like Davesprite and whatever Daves that usually died. "You didn't say anything wrong. I guess I just forgot." It's not the first thing he's forgotten that was generally important. He can honestly say he's forgotten that he can time travel on many occasions.

Now that's an interesting concept. She's very curious as to how that works, but-- well, she's not about to ask. It seems a dangerous can of worms to open, considering her own experience situations involving such concepts. She presses her lips together just to make sure she won't say something silly, though that last part makes her frown slightly. "Oh." Forgotten, then. She knows a thing or two about what that's like. (Perhaps it's for the best that Davesprite isn't here? If there's any hope that his situation might be better than the one in the Tower, anyway, which isn't something she's willing to bet on. "I suppose... some things are easy to forget." Maybe that's one of those things, for him? She can't claim to know the reality of the situation. She needs a second to think of the phrase, but, "Out of sight, out of mind... right?" It's true of memories and she knows it, but that doesn't mean she's happy to think it.

He's not usually too cagey about talking about how timelines work, since it was mostly technical to him. It's when he has to emotionally invest himself in it that he starts getting fairly cagey about it. "I guess that's one way to look at it. I kind of forget things easily when I don't have to think about it. There's a number of occasions that I forget I can time travel."

He forgets about it a lot while in Animus. It wasn't generally a safe power to use here.

"Mm. Most people do." But what's decidedly more concerning about that statement is the last part. Her interest is obvious. "Time travel?" So that's a Thing, too, then? It's a concept with which she is vaguely familiar, but also one that's slightly unsettling, mostly because, as with many things, were it to fall into the wrong hands, well....

"Oh. I guess that's not something everyone is used too. I didn't think it was a thing until I had them. I was in charge of Time for my session. That's also a ridiculously complicated story that I'm the worst to explain. I didn't really witness everything completely linear." Which leads to a bit of a jumbled mess at times. "I just made sure that the main timeline never became a doomed one. It's not something I risk here since it affects a lot more people and they aren't exactly safe."
